Some of you have been invited to join the community. You are welcome to participate in the rating process, but you are accepted regardless. To those wanting to join the community and you HAVE NOT been invited these are the rules:
1) Do not apply with other peoples icons/bases/templates.
2) When applying, you must post at least 5 icons/bases that you have made strictly by yourself. Try to use a variety of themes for your icons.
3) Do not comment/post anything while waiting to be accepted. If you feel the need to defend yourself on your own "entrance post", go ahead. However, other than that, there are no exceptions.
4) If you are not accepted on your first try, you will be able to re-apply again one week after the day you first submitted.
5) Once you are accepted into the community, you must vote (at least occasionally) on the other icons coming in. Also, you must post your own icons at least once a month.
Every accepted member of <lj comm="icowned"> is required to vote on new applicants. The following are the areas in which new applicants will be judged:
On a scale of 1-10 on 1)Originality 2)Appearence/Quality 3)Colors/Fonts/Templates etc. 5)Editing (how well the base was edited, how the text was placed, whether or not the alterations/filters/wording "fit" etc) 6)Overall appearance and feel.
Any new applicant needs an overall minimum score between a 7.5/8 to be accepted into the community. As previously stated, you are welcome to reapply if you dont make it first go around, a week after your first application.
Here are some simple things to keep in mind when submitting icons.
What to do: 1) Use high-quality images 2) Make seamless animations 3) Correctly position base-images so that they actually look artistic 4) Have legible, well positioned text 5) Use transparent templates 6) Make icons that are not too cluttered but not too basic either. Remember a base is not an icon!!
What not to do: 1) Use low-quality images, screenshots, skewed images or chunky animations. 2) Use basic effects unartistically [Scanlines, LensFlares, Scratches] 3) Post a million low-quality images that are simply crops. Again, a base is not an icon! 4) Use a font that is illegible. 5) Have borders/squares/blinkies that look as if they were simply thrown on randomly 6) Throw some random animation on a base and call it an icon. 7) Make/Use templates that are not transparent
Please note this is not an icon only community. However, it is STRONGLY advised that you do know how to make icons as well. However, if you feel that you are a very proficient base/template maker, feel free to post those alone.
Second off, we DO accept requests from outside members. If you see a post from someone whos icons you enjoy, you should have no qualms about replying to their post with a request. However, we request that you do not flood the commnity with requests.
Finally, feel free to take any bases/templates for your own use UNLESS THE POSTER SAYS THAT IT IS NOT OKAY. If you do something with the bases/templates, please post them in the community, as it's always interesting to see what people can do with a simple base of templates.
However, when it comes to icons, do not take the icons for your own use unless the poster says that it is okay. This is as such because much more work and effort is put into the creation of icons, and many people do not want their own creations to be used be others. So please check with the creator before you use an icon that they have posted.
